Single Vehicle Loss of Control

A teenage driver was rendered quadriplegic after he lost control of his vehicle which collided into a stationary object on the side of the road.

  • What was the mechanism of injury?

  • Was the vehicle's restraint system being properly used?

  • What was the motion of the occupant's body within the vehicle's interior?

  • Would the occupant have sustained the same injury had he been properly restrained?

To address these questions, we thoroughly inspected and documented the accident site and vehicle. The accident was reconstructed via computer simulation to determine the motions of the vehicle and driver during the collision sequence.
